If your child has been expressing a desire to learn to sew, and it doesn't seem to be a passing fancy, think about our easy sewing summer sessions for kids ages 8-12.

Here's what you can expect your child - boys and girls alike - to accomplish

in this 1:1 class for beginners in just 5 (1-1/2 hr. - 2 hr.) sessions:

One or all of the following projects depending upon motivation and other influencing factors such as age, motor skills and self confidence:

SESSION 1

​

-- machine basics.

just enough to get going and make something fun!

​

-- stitch a greeting card

including some fancy machine stitching on card stock designed and marker colored by your child

materials provided

SESSION 2

​

-- more machine basics + basic tools

​

-- marker coloring a doll face/body on paper design for

Session 3 pillow doll making

​

-- upload design to fabric printing company Spoonflower (if time allows child can watch this fascinating process or I will do it on my time) and allow 10 days for fabric to return

​

-- cut and sew tote bag

because there's no such thing as too many tote bags!  

materials provided for tote bag

student must arrive prepared to pay $20 for specialty fabric print to make doll or pillow for Session 3

alternatively student may shop for fabric at a local fabric store

(less expensive)

SESSION 3

​

-- cut, sew and stuff pillow doll or square pillow

(child's choice)

​

-- marker color quilt template on paper design for Session 4  to sew 36" square quilt/blanket.

​

-- upload design to fabric printing company Spoonflower (if time allows child can watch this fascinating process or I will do it on my time) and allow 10 days for fabric to return

student must arrive prepared to pay $40 for specialty fabric print for Session 4 quilt blanket

alternatively student may shop for fabric at a local fabric store

(less expensive)

SESSION 4

​

-- sew easy quilt blanket

(1-layer fleece blanket or 2-layer cotton blanket depending on progress)

​

-- design/discuss mermaid tail style for girls or cape for boys (student will shop for fabric with family member/caregiver on their own time following guidelines provided) for Session 5

SESSION 5

​

-- sew easy mermaid tail or easy costume cape

​

-- earn Certificate of Completion!

FINALE

​

-- Student is presented with a pair of silver or gold sewing scissors

​

​

​

 

-- Parents/family members/caregivers are invited to attend child's

"trunk show" of Summer Session Sewing creations:
